PERSOL MAGNIFICENT OBSESSIONS: 30 stories of craftsmanship in film
July 11–November 10, 2013

The third and final installation in a series of three exhibitions, PERSOL MAGNIFICENT OBSESSIONS: 30 stories of craftsmanship in film, uncovers ten more stories of obsessive craftsmanship in filmmaking. The exhibits will offer visitors the opportunity to view rarely seen artifacts from some of cinema’s most iconic films, as well as behind-the-scenes research notes, sketches and materials used in the development process by some of the world’s greatest filmmakers.

Launched in 2011 and curated by acclaimed film and contemporary art specialist, Michael Connor, the exhibition takes inspiration from Persol’s handcrafted thirty step process that is synonymous with the steps taken to deliver great filmmaking. In 2013, one of the artists featured in the exhibition is the larger-than-life costume designer Theadora Van Runkle, who rose from obscurity to fashion stardom with two films from the late 1960s, Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and The Thomas Crown Affair (1968).
